Multi-Site Free Screening Day

With January as the backdrop for Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, free cervical cancer screenings will be available in Chittenden and Addison counties for uninsured and underinsured women.

A 2007 participant had this to say: "Discovering the free pap screening day was such a relief! I had no insurance and had been putting it off for too long. The people at the Maitri were very warm and welcoming and the vibe was so positive. When my test came back with abnormal cells, it was scary to think that I may have waited longer to find out. I was able to take care of it quickly and early. I'm so grateful to the Hicks Foundation. "

Dr. Jennie Lowell, Obstetrician Gynecologist, Maitri Healthcare for Women looks ahead to this year. "We are thrilled to be able to partner with The Hicks Foundation for the third year to provide this vital community service. Cervical cancer screening is one of the most important tools we have to catch cancer early and keep women healthy. With regular pap tests, HPV DNA tests, the HPV vaccine and early treatment no woman needs to die from cervical cancer."

Doctors and support staff at Champlain Obstetrics & Gynecology in Essex (802-879—1802) Maitri Health Care for Women in South Burlington (802-862-7338), and Open Door Clinic in Vergennes (802-388-0137) will provide screenings on Saturday, January 10 from 9:00-1:00.  In addition to pap tests, breast exams, HPV DNA tests and HPV vaccines are available.  Interpreters, childcare, and snacks are provided.  Reservations are recommended but not required.  The screenings are sponsored by The Hicks Foundation, Seventh Generation, Ladies First, and Kelliher Samets Volk.  For more info, please check www.freepap.org.
